COLORWAVE TODDLER HAT
Sara Baldwin ©2005

Gauge: 6.4 stitches per inch

Materials:
SARA'S COLORWAVE YARN, wool or cotton fingering weight (sock) yarn
One 16 inch circular needle size 4.
One set of double pointed knitting needles, size 4.
 Yarn needle

Size: about 16 inches circumference

Cast on (loosely) 102 stitches.  Join, being careful not to twist. Work in k1 p1 rib for about 2 inches.  After
you have an inch or so of ribbing, you may wish to adjust your needle size so as to get the colors to pool
up. If the color bands on the ribbing spiral upward to the left, try going up a needle size (it won’t be
noticeable).  If the color bands spiral upward to the right, try going down a needle size. Stockinette stitch
(knit every round) until work measures about 4½  inches from cast on.

To shape the top of hat: (change to double points as necessary)

Break yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail.  Draw through the nine remaining stitches with a darning needle, tighten,
knot securely, and conceal end. To make the loopy I cord topper, cast on 4 stitches onto a double pointed
needle.  Knit, DO NOT TURN, but slide the stitches to the other end of the needle. Repeat until the cord is
about four feet long, then bind off.  Bunch it up into loops, and sew it on to the hat firmly.
